Ok, Finally I'm the proud owner of a 1966 she needs work, but it drives, the plan is to make her a nice driver, she has nom a 427. I have a question about the headlights, one goes up but it doesn't go down, the other one doesn't go up or down, I checked and the motors are getting power both ways, so the switch and the wires are good, any ideas???
Its probably time to take the motors out and check them. The grease in them could be hardened over the years. The gears could be stuck, due to the grease. They are not that difficult to remove, and perform maintenance on, however I would suggest a mirror to look up under there. Some guys remove the hood, some don't, but a word of caution, if you don't remove the hood make darn sure you prop it so that it doesn't come down and remove a digit or two.... :smash:  The AIM should show you the details of what you have to do..... Good Luck....
First off, and most importantly, CONGRATULATIONS on the new purchase. I, also recently purchased a 66 and like you had some headlight problems. The driver side bucket sometimes didn't want to close, even after restored bucket motors. I found that loosening and re-tightning the ball and socket assembly for the buckets so that they were tightened evenly helped my situation. Apparently there was some binding going on. Also, you might take the ball and socket assembly apart and just really clean them up with steel wool. The ball joint should spin almost freely over the little axel. Do not grease this joint when you re-assemble. Grease is an attractant for dust and will eventually cause binding. The little brass bushing inside the steel ball is all the bearing you will need and the steel wool cleaning will polish everything right up.
Thank you, I will take the motors out tomorrow and go from there. I did a search on the forum and found some older posts on the topic; it sure helps to have access to such a big knowledge base. I will post the findings after I take them apart……
