Had the vette out this weekend. Met some friends to play some sand volleyball at a local court. Our friends brought out their new Thunderbird and they were parked side by side.
Anyway, my friend went into the store next door. The guy at the checkout jokingly said he would give away the merchandise in exchange for the vette. My friend said, the vette's not mine but the Thunderbird is. The guy at the counter said no, I would rather have the vette. :D
It's little things like that, that make you smile.

Re: Vette vs. Thunderbird (Ryanc65)
I understand they're gonna quit building the new T-Bird in the near future, nobody's buying them. We passed one today and it does absolutely nothing for me.
Instead of building the Bird, which was based on a concept vehicle, Ford should've built a production version of this Forty-Niner concept.....
I have also read that the Tbird is dead. The styling is not quite right. The original 2 seaters had better proportions and more power (for the era they arrived in).
Chevy worked hard to get a market position for Corvette and to defend it for decades. The Ford people seem to just be looking for SOMETHING to market.
My wifey liked the T-Bird, but with two little ones she is always is looking for 2+2's. Unfortunately, with the T-Bird dead, Ford might think twice about bringing other concepts to market.
I thought they were cool looking when they first came out. They did a nice job with the styling but for some reason the look has not had staying power - at least not with me. They should have upped the performance. That may have helped.
Someone said they are girlie car and I would agree. Katie Couric has one. Can't get much more cutesy-girlie than that.

Re: Vette vs. Thunderbird (Ryanc65)
They should have brought the Thunderchicken back like this....
Then ..all you need is a ...Felt Fedora.. Some Sun Glasses.. A few Gold Chains..and a Fur Mat for the Dash... and Sheep Skin's on the Seat's... And Your Ready To Cruz For Chicks.....
I agree, It seems to be more of a "girl's" car. In fact that is exactly what this one is. It was an impulse buy by a female friend.
I told her for the price they paid, they could have been close to a new vette. Or they could have gotten a very nice old vette. But, she wanted something different. Apparently to many people have newer vettes in the area.
I would love to get my hands on one of the new GT40's, I'm sorry, "GT's" that ford is putting into production. But that is about $130,000  out of my price range.
Why can't Detroit make a $30,000 purpose built performance car??? I mean non comfortable, loud, viper type car with an 8.2 liter cast iron engine (not aluminum), a road racer.
Maybe Chevy should make a brand new car called a "C2" with an 8.2 liter truck engine!!!
I know you will hate to hear this, but the Dodge Viper was a good idea, just too pricey. A cheap, no frills, Dodge viper type car would be nice. :hurray:

The original Viper - like the original Corvette - had no door handles, windows, or top. Like the original Corvette, the price was high, and the people with money to buy them to drive to the golf course wanted little things like widows. :lolg:
If you want a high performance car for less than the price of a new Corvette, ya gotta buy a used Corvette. :_dupe:
The Car is Beautifull, and I always snap my neck to see one on the road....
BUT, for MSRP $37,420* , That is what killed it....
If they could have marketed them for 25K, they would have sold a million of them...
Ford has cancelled production of the "NEW" T-BIRD after this year........so there apparently is no market .....also my understanding the Ford delers wanted premium $$$$$ for the Bird & wouldnt discount :U They are nice machines but dont appeal to the Dog. :steering: :flag
Too bad Ford never really pinned down just what niche market the TBird was supposed to appeal to. (2-seat sports car .. ? .. 4-door passenger .. ? .. Luxury car .. ? ..). Seems Ford let the market itself define the genre, rather than the other way 'round. Perhaps the new retroBird would have had a chance to be reborn had there been something more exciting residing under the hood, as in some decent performance V-8 power. But, . . ."Chick car" . .? .. Dare to say it and I'll probably get slammed for saying so but that's the kiss of death .. !! .. Ok honey, I'm going out the front door now! ..
