Re: Tips On Installing 65 Engine Ignition Harness (67wave_saver)
It's pretty straightforward - just follow the routing and clipping shown in the A.I.M., and make sure the eight terminals it engages in the connector on the engine side of the fuse panel are nice and clean - you might coat them with dielectric grease (Radio Shack) before plugging the harness in. I'd also recommend cutting off the starter solenoid end of the 12-ga. red main power feed wire and adding a 16-ga. fusible link wire in its place (any auto parts store has them, with the big ring terminal already attached), as that main power feed circuit has NO protection prior to 1967. Be sure you position the spade connector at the (+) coil terminal so it doesn't stick out past the edge of the coil and short out on the inside of the top ignition shield.
Re: Tips On Installing 65 Engine Ignition Harness (JohnZ)
Like John said, straight forward.
I installed and M&H ignition harness this spring. I removed the old one and then layed the new one in the general location were it was to be installed. Then I started at the fuse box and worked my way around the car to the horns. Don't buckle it in until you have everthing hooked up. I found I had to re-route and find it's happy spot a few times.
John, great idea on the in line fuse block. Never thought of that! The location would be perfect.
