Belt ques
My 64 327/300 has one belt which runs from the crank shaft to the alternator to the water pump. A friend which has a 65 says it should have another belt and im missing a bracket, pully , etc. Not sure what another belt would even run. Need some clarification here, should it have one belt or two. thanks jimbo64
Jimbo64,
There may be differences from '64 to '65, but I purchased my '65 327/300 22 years ago and it is exactly the way you described yours...1 belt going around the crank pulley, alternator pulley, then water pump pulley (no power streering)...no idler pulley.

My 65 327/365shp has 2 belts.
The one belt as you describe, and another that is about half the size (length). It is routed around the crank and water pump and is tensioned off an idler pulley that is located about were a power steering pump would be. It runs nothing other then the water pump. This could be a backup for the main belt, or may serve as "counter tension" for the water pump.

Guys, thanks for for the inputs and setting me straignt. Thought I might be missing some parts. Why did they go to the second belt later. Just curious. J :flag
JMHO, but it looks like the General installed a second belt connecting the crank shaft pully (fan) and the water pump using a dual pully set-up. My '63 327/300 is the same as yours. BTW, toss and extra belt and tools in the compartment with the jack.
Again guys, thanks for the response. Had me a little confused since we really couldn't see a use for the extra belt on his 65, however.he almost convinced me that I should have had one since the pulley's have the extra groove. :chevy
