Default Plug Wire routing

I seem to remember someone saying that you need to watch the routing of two or more wires for one or both banks..
This was to avoid possible cross firing???

Anyone ever heard of this??

Thanks
Tony

Rod,
You are correct about the markings....
Right in front of my eyes...
I guess a few years back I might have been able to see them :nopity

Is this the only palce where it matters?

No problems at the top or the other bank??

Thanks for the quick response

Yah on the seeing thing, I'm nearsightted and now to remove glasses to see close. PITA
My understanding of it is look at the firing order verses cylinder location and wire runs
So just 5 and 7 (double check it's been miller time for a bit  )
rod

bty, great color

Proper routing of the wires through the looms/grommets is indicated in the AIM and service manuals.

What a job.... :smash:

Trying to fish the wires through the shilding and through the motor mounts is a real PITA

Someone said this was a 4 hr job
I must be REAL SLOW!!!

Drivers side wasn't too bad maybe 3 hrs.. but
The passenger side with the heater hoses, AC unit, starter .......
I'm still fighting #2 and #4 :banghead:

I will have a party when I get those two back on

I just stopped for a beer and a bite to eat
Now I'm going back at it

Wish me luck

Tony

UPDATE:
I finally got them in :hurray:

4 hrs per side is more like it..

It is definately a 4 beer job and at least one after it's done...
I'm starting that one as soon as I clean up the mess..

Next comes the points, Cond, cap and rotor...
Then we'll see it it still runs

The wires and plugs are easily accessible from under the car. I can remove all my plugs with an open-end-box-end wrench from under the car.

I found it easier to remove the starter and some others then fish around. Starter drops in 2 min.

I guess just taking the "v shielding" removal is just as much fun. When I made my original post I forgot to tell you guys that I was putting the v shielding, lower shielding and the rest of the shielding on while doing the plugs. You guys must be catorshinists!! to get them thru the shielding without removing them. I have a question though is 5 and 6 supposed to go thru the v shielding?? I ran mine down and out thru the v. If this is incorrect it might be why I'm not getting a spark to 4 and 8 it could be cross firing. Sorry to add another question to the pot but I figured that if I didn't know someone else might not either.. Dave..

Only #1 & #3 on the left and #2 & #4 on the right go through the V-shields; just the front two plug wires on each side.

Tony ..
Good to hear you got it done. .. I was wondering if maybe a true "1 to 1" ratio of consumed beer to hours worked mighta' moved things along a bit smoother .. :D .. Just wondering .. ! ..

It was getting so hot that I switched to super chilled Smirnoff Triple Black's
I think that is what finally did the trick...

Those wires were no match..

After all that work I found the original problem...

Although the wires needed to be replaced,
Problem Wasn't the wires :cry

Rubbing block on the point set was badly worn
Points were almost closed..

I think I still have a problem however,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is some slop in the centrifugal advance springs.. In other words, it doesn't fully return like the springs are stretched.. Shouldn't it fully return??

I think When setting initial timing I am already seeing some centrifugal already cranked in..

Max advance is coming up short of the expected 36 degrees..
I'm only seeing 26 @ 4000 RPM

Could this be my missing 10 degrees???

Here I go learning something new... Again...

Thanks guys, you're getting me through another one
