Just a simple question (I LOVE being simple...): I am considering headers on my '66 427 (yeah...I know the pros and cons), and I am looking for input on what outfit makes a good set that will bolt on. If they aren't good ceramics, I will spend the bucks to have Jet Hot take care of them.... Lots of folks make decent ones for SBs, but BB 'vettes seem to be a different issue.
Thanks in advance and  :seeya

I don't know who makes them but I think a set of the headers they use on power boats would look really good on your car. You know the type that come out over the motor and the added advantage in winter of the hot exhust acting as a defroster you couldn't lose. It wouldn't take much to mod the hood just a good hole saw. :D
I have a pair of Hedman Headers on mine. Mine turn out to the side for side pipes but I think they have a version for standard exhaust as well. The fit in the engine compartment is nice.
since you're considering exhaust system work, did you rule out making to move to side mounted? (headman headers, 2.5" core stainlessworks pipes, stock covers?) nothing beats a midyear with BB, KO's, and side pipes :) It would be cooler inside, sounds wonderful, look super.
I have an A.O. Smith body and underbody exhaust. Pipes are nice, and I almost went that route years ago, but decided against it....don't want to cut the body, and I do take the car on long road trips occasionally....... ....huh??? What did you say???? Can't hear you.....
Still looking, but I'll check out the Hedman site. Thanks much.
I have hooker super comp headers on my 67, coated, fit perfectly except in one spot near the frame on the passenger side, a bolt end from the idler arm asmbly almost contacted the pipe, so we dimpled the tube with a socket on it's side and wacked it with a hammer to make a nice, gentle dimple to clear the bolt. Look pretty cool. 2 1/8" primary pipes, 3 1/2 " collector. I have p/s, a/c, 4 speed, and no inteferences anywhere.
Before you buy a set of headers only to send them out to Jet-Hot, get a quote from Jet-Hot direct on buying from them. Ask for the corvette forum discount. They will quote you a price for the headers you want, coated, delivered. :) MJ
if you really want to know (about the A O Smith/side exh thing, yes, they made/shipped bodies prep'ed for side pipes), contact John Z, or check his recent post on the "other" corvette forum :)
I had a set of the Sanderson cast "headers" that worked great and didn't have all the problems associated with conventional headers. I give them a huge
