Default High Speed Internet Install

You guys gave me a lot of good info regarding cable internet so I thought I should share my experience. After a few minutes worth of bonding over common interests (vettes and flying) we (he) got down to work. And yes when we walked in the garage and he saw the 64, he said "damn a splitwindow, right?) The best reply I had at the spur of the moment was- only if we had some vandalism last night. In his defense, he did say that when he was in front of the car.
My goal was a fast install of a cable splitter on the existing outlet. He told me if I did that I would have to be satisfied with far less than 100% performance and when I asked about a 3 way split so I could have 2 TV's in the office he said he wouldn't even install it. So we ended up with a splitter where the cable enters the house prior to the big splitter in the attic. He did not have the guage that measures the signal, but he did have some software that supposedly took a measurement .I had a couple of calls while he was doing that so I don't know much about the process. Final result--great speed, much faster that my DSL and of course the old dialup. BTW, Earthlink is the ISP.
Again, thanks for the great advice and info.
