Default cherry picker/engine hoist

Where is the best deal on a cherry picker/engine hoist. There is a tool sale going on now in town. A 2 ton China made with EQ and a built -in engine stand 8 ton ram for $179.99. Typical low quality China made tool. Looks like the one I saw in the Northern Hydraulics catalog. Also China made. Any Suggestions??? :smash:

I don't know if you have a Price Club near you but they have good deals on 3 ton jacks and cherry pickers.

I saw one on Ebay for under $100 just yesterday. Go take a look.

That sounds like mine, which has served me very well.
If you don't buy it locally, make sure you find a free shipping deal.

Anything fabricated from steel tubing these days is made in China; I have a Harbor Freight 2-Ton hoist with folding legs I've had for about seven years, and it works just fine. The free shipping is important - Summit has them for about the same price, but quoted me truck shipping from Cleveland to Detroit seven years ago at $135.00; guess why I bought from Harbor Freight (free shipping on orders over $50.00). Bought my transmission jack and tripod stand from them at the same time - all work great.

I bought one at Schucks for $150 but took it back. They aren't long enough to install an engine from the front of a C2. And my hoist had an extension on it. I just threw a 1/2 ton chain hoist over the rafters and it worked fine. :yesnod:

Kragen Auto Parts is closing out their 2-ton cherry pickers for 139 bucks. Looks very much like the one JohnZ shows in the pic - with 4 hole main mast and adjustable internal slider bar.

I bought the one at the tool sale for $179.00. It looks identical to JohnZ except mine came with an engine stand that can be mounted to the cherry picker and also a load equalizer. I don't know if I trust the load EQ, flimsy design!

Bought mine off the internet from MENINTOOLS.com for $189. It folds up and has very long legs and boom that you need for getting an engine out of a mid year. Have pulled and installed a BB and SB in midyears and am very pleased with it. BTW, it's made in China!
