hey guys first post. I am hoping to get some information on Rear Drum brake replacement. I recently inheirited a 1964 Corvette of which my father disasembled the rear suspension. I have replaced all the bushings and bearings under the rear and now I am to the point of installing the brakes. I have no idea where all the springs go and brackets. Any pictures or information of the brake assembly would be awesome. I plan on putting these back together tommorrow. I have looked at the front but there is no parking brake. I would appreciate some help. Thanks Jamie
Couple of things:
1) you really need a Corvette shop manual. They are available.
2) I think Duke and or JohnZ will sign on and offer some help
3) In the absense of the above, I will scan in and send to you a picture from the GM parts maqnual, or I could scan a page from the service manual.
Give this a couple of days, and If you haven't resolved this by Monday, give me a call and I'll send you some pictures.
Your local auto parts store is likely to have a Chiltons manual, or something similar, covering 63-67 Vettes. These are sort of generic, one size fits all reprints of the factory manual. I haven't had one in many years, but they should cover your brake questions. The factory manual would be the best thing, but the aftermarket manual might be available locally.
I thought maybe a chiliton might help. I also have a 68 and the chilton for it, disc of course, says during disassembly note part locations or do one side at a time.
You can buy a '63 Corvette Shop manual and '64 Supplement from NCRS or any of the big Corvette parts vendors. The are the factory manuals, are the ones to have, and are reasonably priced.
Rear drums on these cars is the same as any GM drums of the era. As said go to Schucks and get a Chiltons type manual. That will do it. These are not hard to put together.
