I use Moble 0ne in my 1966 , 427 (10/30 wt) my engine has been totally rebuilt....works great no leaking & great" pumpability"....Chevy went to Moble one on the new C5 as oil tempuitures were lower to the point that they did away with the oil cooler( new Vettes)....magazine testing has shown 3 to 5 hp increase with synthetic oils, not nesesarily Moble one.....I just came back from oildies day at NE dragway.... so many cars running & was wating so long in the lane that my electic choke was on when the line started moving....when I ran the 1/4 mile my water temp was approx 150 deg & oil must have been lower in the 140 range....shIfted at 5,500 rpm @ turned my best et (so far) of 13.6 @ 105 MPH......Note>>3.08 rear gears & stock side exhaust, no headers.Moble one works for me....The Dog  :steering:  :steering:  :steering: :seeya :seeya :chevy :auto: :hurray:  I think synthetic oils lower oil temp :seeya
GM specs Mobil 1 because it has better stability at higher temps then dino oil. Being able to handle the higher oil temps allowed GM to drop the oil cooler requirement, not because the syn oil would cause the engine to run cooler, which it dosen't.
do a search of the archives here, a lot of good info re BB cooling, and oil. seems shell rotella 15w40, or any other CI-4 rated oil, is the hot setup for our older design engines.
About to open a can of worms!! May be taken off from moderator! This is not promotional, just testamonial!
There is a little known product called PRO-BLEND, Not PRO-LONG! This is a very viable product and does exactly what it says it will! It is an oil aditive that makes your oil seek out heat which washes away heat! Works with synthetic as well as dino oil! I use it in all my cars and tow vehicle! Cools engine oil as much as 57 degrees! Reserch it on the internet!
Since you have received both "yes" and "no" answers to your questions, I suppose the only true way to determine whether or not it helps cool the engine more would be to find out what the specific heat transfer coefficients (properties) are for the various oils and compare them that way... :lurk:
