I am replacing my Ampmeter with a volt meter. Looking at the back of the voltmeter which termnal left or right is the positive (battery) connection. The otherone I would assume is the ground.
Only one ammeter lead can be used with a voltmeter. Like Wayne said, they are both hot, but are paralleled off two different buss points with a slight voltage difference that is approximately proportional to battery charge or discharge current. The "ammeter" used in C2s is really a voltmeter that uses slight buss voltage difference as an indicator of battery charge or discharge amperage. It is a psuedo ammeter.
The voltmeter just needs a connection somewhere to the 12V buss and a ground. The "high" ammeter lead could be used for a voltmeter along with a ground, but I'm not sure which one is "high". It might not make too much difference in the actual full system voltage reading. Connect the other voltmeter lead to a good ground and tie off and insulate the remaining ammeter lead so it doesn't short to ground.
