Well by the light of a flashlight in the dark I hooked the jumper cables backwards and burned up a wiring harness on the 64 which was aided by the fact that the cable colors on the battery were reversed so red was ground and black was positive. Who is the best source for a new harness? I have the major catalogs but wondered if anyone has a recommendation?
Hey, kinda been there done that. I shorted the hot coil lead on my ignition shrouding one day and melted about 6 feet of the underhood harness on my 67. I counsidered myself extremely lucky.
A visit to the website of Lectric Limited and in three days I was up and running again with a new harness that is a pretty accurate reproduction and all of the lengths were exact. All I had to do was change the boot on the hot lead to the alternator and use the original from the melted harness.
The car top flighted with the new harness with no points lost there.
The one I got from Lectric Limited 6-7 years ago has performed perfectly, and installed easily - no stretching, rerouting, or crying.
My alternator burned up last year, and took the power (fat red) wire end with it. Now I have a 60 amp fuse in a Stinger case below the alternator to protect the harness.
Don't throw out the old harness. That's where I got the replacement fat red wire for my new altternator.
Lectric Limited makes a nice harness. I have 3 harnesses from them in my Vette. M&H Electrical Fabricators do a nice job as well. Their prices and product are nearly identical.
Gentlemen, thanks for your input. I was out of town and could read your replys from the hotel computer but could not reply. We have ordered a harness and hopefully it will be here and installed by this weekend since it is Goodguys at Texas Motor Speedway and the weather is to be beautiful.
