Default Engine/Tranny Pull 327/350

Getting ready to pull the Engine from my '66 327/350. Have everything disconnected but I have a concern if the 4-speed Tranny can be pulled with the engine at the same time. It looks as though it may get hooked up on the rear cross member. Has anyone done this or can this be done together or should the tranny be pulled first?

Thanks

Rondog

I have done it with a SB/muncie and the radiator left in place. I find it easier to unbolt the trans and remove it first. When the engine comes forward an inch or two, the trans will slip out easily.

Pull the radiator and shroud, but leave the support in place. The rad support is the only thing holding the front bodywork forward of the #1 body mount. Removing the radiator/shroud will prevent damage to them.

With the radiator out, you can move the engine/trans far enough forward for the tail housing to clear the cross member.

:iagree: with Duke - the key is to use a "leveler" on the engine hoist so you can change the angle of the engine/trans assembly as you remove it (pull the distributor first). I've done this many times with a "leveler" and no helpers.

Rondog,

I have done it both ways but prefer to disconnect the trans and slide it back but not pull it down, agree with Magicv8. It will stay up in the tunnel, you may need to support it.

Either way do not forget to pull the fan off of the water pump, it is quick and gives you more room.

I don't pull the distributor or the radiator unless I am going to work on the motor or radiator but I always pop the distributor cap off so it does not hit the firewall.

Just my 2 cents and hope it helps, no offence to others, everyone has their own way of doing this job.

Thanks for help! The radiator is out and so is the support. Making every extra caution not to lean on fenders or even touch front end as I want to repaint the support before I put it back in. Also planning to put all new suspension on the front end at this time. I do have a "Leveler" and will be using it also. Just wanted to make sure it would clear the tunnel and come up out of the compartment with out getting to close to the front end.

Thanks Again :flag
