went to look at a 1963 split window, car is daytona blue, black interior.
on body tag.
style 63 837 7461 body
trim 490 J 916 A paint
in corvette black book is shows 490 for interior color in 1963 but no J also i could not find 7461 body number in the book.
owner claims car is all original.
is this the right tag for this car.
thanks guys.

7461 is the body number. It's a St. Louis body...the 7461'st one built.
490 is Daytona Blue vinyl. The J is an "exception control letter". The Daytona Blue is DARK...looks black.
ECL's...exception control letters...show variances in the interior within the same interior color. Read Noland Adams' book 63-67 Restoration Guide. It explains it fairly well.
Here's an example: Blue interior.... if the car had power windows, it would have no holes in the door panels for window cranks. If it had AC, it would have the dash with the center vent for the AC, and so on. What's the VIN of the car? My Black Book shows 490 a, j, s, xe, xg.Chuck

Re: 1963 split window (BILL88)
I have a 63 Roadster and I was checking my NCRS Pocket Guide about the trim plate you reported.
916 is the code for Daytona Blue exterior paint.
490 J is the code for Dark Blue Vinyl standard interior.
It does not show black as an interior color matched with Daytona Blue.
Is it possible that the interior was a very dark blue and not a black?
Or did I read the pocket guide incorrectly?
hope that helps

490J = Coupe Dark Blue Vinyl without A/C. A black vinyl interior would be coded "STD" or 'BLK" on the trim tag, with no suffix indicating other option conditions.
