Has anybody had the tabs on their windshield posts repaired in Australia? I thought mine were OK when I removed them but one of them broke off when the electroplaters ran some current through it and the other one on closer inspection is holding on by a fine margin. I got a quote from an engineering shop to do them. Very expensive because he said he would have to make a jig for each one to mount it in the milling machine. The job is quick & easy after that.

You can get the pair repaired in the US for about $125 USD. Biggest problem is that you are on the other side of the planet. I have seen magazine articles where they have "welded" tabs back on. I suspect they mean they brazed them instead of welding. I would not attempt welding unless the shop was VERY familiar with welding die cast material. :auto:

Sorry to hear you need the repair! I had mine done at Corvette Central (Michigan, U.S.), even though I have my own machine shop (unless you have the fixtures to hold these properly, very difficut to machine). I was very pleased with CC's work and turnaround time (2 weeks).
Re: Aussie C1- need help with windshield posts (blu61)
Hey John,
It may be worth sending them over to CC for the repair as it will be fairly critical that they get the repair done correctly as these windshield frames are a bitch to get re-assembled as it is let alone if someone does a bad repair on them.
Besides our exchange rate is getting better by the day.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll see if I can find someone over here to weld/ braze them. There must be somebody in this country who could do it. The problem is finding them. If that doesn't work out, it looks like CC will get a look at them.
Re: Aussie C1- need help with windshield posts (blu61)
If it wuz me, I'd bite the bullet and send them to CC. If someone screws them up, replacements are expensive in the US, and probably impossible to find in your neck of the woods.

I should of added that the way CC repairs them, it looks a lot stronger than original (or a weld/braze job). In other words, they should not ever break again.
