Being the webmaster for our local Corvette club, I was aked the following. I have no idea but thought someone here might be able to help answer?
My dad just
purchased an all "original?" 56 belair from the proverbial little old lady from
Pomeroy who bought it in 1957. When we scraped off some of the grime
we got down to the red engine paint (so far so good) then we scraped on
the heads and they had twin pyramids for casting marks (someone said
these are power-pack heads?) so we pulled a valve cover to get the
casting # (3773012) also the date code J46(october 4, 1956?). I can find
almost nothing on the web about these heads except that they might be for a
265 cid. 195hp 1955 vette. A person in Oregon whom used to run a
wrecking yard only saw a set of these one time and thought they were some
kind of hi-po head.
Nope, 3773012 was never used on a Corvette (the "I.D. Guide" is wrong), and I show no production applications for either car or truck; may be service replacements.

I'm curious as to how you know the book is wrong.
Because I have about 8 other more authoritative references, all of which show the '55 Corvette V-8 head as 3703523 and the '56 as 3725306 and 3731762; the 377-series of casting numbers wasn't released until 1960.
Yep,
from my old rodding days they were called power pack heads! I don't know about the ID number, but they were used in many a chevy and it wouldn't surprise me if they were used in vettes. I've had 3-62,64 now an 87. The power pack heads were the thing preceeding the magnificent 202"s.
