Default 64 frame off

Hi all

Finaly decide to go ahead and do a frame off on my 64!
i've read a lot of book and went to different site to acquire informations.
today, i went through the old yankee lady check list and i've been able to do it all exect for those 12 body mount... yes it's a convertible.

Problem is i don't know how to remove the two body mount inside the kick panel... is it possible to get them out using a long socket or is there another way?

also, when the time comes to lift the body, building body dolly next weekend,
should i leave the top up or sould it be down?

As always, thanks for your quick response!
Guess this forum and all it's knowlege will be a good place to visit during the next months... year.

Did mine so long ago I can't remember for sure... but I'm thinking those mounts are the ones at the firewall, and it seems to me they are accessed from outsiide the car at the front.

If it's like a 66, you can get to them by removing a triangular metal splash shield and reaching it from underneath near the firewall. You can also get to the topside from underneath the hood near the firewall but I also had to remove my battery tray to get a good look.

Thanks for a quick response.
I tought that these two were the mount # 1 outside the car near the firewall.
You can gain acces to it by the engine compartment. those are not the problem. The one i am refering to are mount # 2 inside the car.

Am i wrong??

I got to the next set of body mounts by removing the decorative door sills. It was directly under them. But I only have 10 mounts on mine.

Before you get ready to lift the body I'd put a bar in each door opening between the top door hinge & the door latch to keep the body from flexing in the door opening area.

There is no such thing as a body mount under the kick panel. Body mount number 2 is under the door sill plates. Fairly easy to get at.

Ask me...I've done it ! :D

The two on the kick up area are in front of the rear wheels behind a plate. Easy to take out. There are two under the door sill also and easy to get out. You may be talking about the two on the upper kick panel at the rear hatch hinge attach points. Those are tough if rusted. They are held in place inside the car with tack welded caps encapsulating the heads. You get to the nuts from below. If they're rusted they will spin inside those cheap caps. I cut mine out with a sawzall.
