I read that article, very interesting, it spoke about a texas oil man John Mecom who at one time owned all six Grand Sports in the 60s. I would be interested in speaking with him if he is still alive because I was told that he may have been the original owner of my 69 L88 and that car was purchased new at Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas. Any leads would be greatly appreciated
John Mecom Jr. is still VERY much alive. He is (among other things) the owner of the Warwick Hotel on Main Street in Houston. He is my age (63) I went to kindergarten with him at The Oaks.
He has owned MANY cars over the years. However, although I have driven some of his Ferraris, I have NEVER heard of him owning an L-88, let alone a 69. As you can see, I would probably have heard.......it's a very small club:-)
You can find out how to contact him through other sources (Houston Chamber of Commerce?) By the way, When Virgil I. (Gus) Grissom's son Scott Grissom worked for Mecom in 1969, HE owned a blue 69 L-89. Maybe that's the mix up. Hope this is of some help.
Well,
Richard Prince has a bunch of Delmo's old pictures, so that's one way. Another would be the Dallas phone book, or Chamber of Commerce because Delmo still has a business. And finally Delmo is a charter member of theTexas Corinthian Sports car Club which races (track events) at Texas World Speedway in Bryan, Texas. He races a 700+hp Corvette.
Tell him I said Hi.
