Default 1962 Seat question??

The DIY guy just pushed the back of the seat on a 62 and lifted it out. I do not think mine works like that. I need to move the seat so that I can connect the new seat belts. Any sugestions? :flag

There should be a 5/16" bolt (1/2" head) on the front of each seat rail. Push the seat all the way back and remove these. The rear of the seat rails hook under a bracket attached to the floor. Just slide the seat forward to remove.

How do you retrofit 3 point belts in a 1962 corvette?

The early C1 seat cushions can be taken out without removing the seat frame. 61 and 62 require removing the entire frame via the method above. That's the only way that you're going to get to the seat belt mounts.

it might be possible to fab something to connect to the pie plate or brackets as an upper anchor point.

Does your car have, or did it have, a convertible soft top? The brackets and pie plate of which Bill speaks, were only installed on cars with a folding top.

Not sure how familiar you are with the seat removal, but just remove the two bolts on the front tracks and then pull the seat forward and out. The rear of the seat tracks are held under brackets in which they slip. No need to unbolt anything from behind the seat.

I wouldn't bother with 3 point seat belts (as suggested)....fact is if you retain the stock mounting of the bottom two 'points' the belts are still marginal at best. They aren't affixed to the frame but to two small, square "anchor plates" that basically bolt through the fiberglass underbody.

If safety is your first concern a vintage Corvette is not the cruiser for small kids -- no air bags, ABS brakes, crush points, rollover protection, and on-and-on...

Seatt is now out - thanks for pointer.

Sorry - to clarify.
It has a soft top & has the brackets you show here.
Wondering if you have heard of anyone that has made such brackets to attach a top anchor.
