Default Correct dash cluster

Ok, I am new to the Corvette restoration, but have played with cars for at least 45 years. Not completely stupid, although I'm beginning to doubt that too.
Ipurchased a 64 Fuel Injected Coupe, not matching number. The injection is 63. intake is 64, overflow tank is 65, distributor is correct, heads correct, tranny, rear end etc. Block is a replacement block. I sent pictures to Jason in tn. and he says the dash is 65. So I go get the "Fact Book" and sure enough, it appears that is true. The car has a build date of K08. Is it possible that this late in assembly, that they put in a 65 cluster?

If not, who has a correct cluster with out breaking my bank account?
And does anyone know someone near Southern Oregon who does dash restorations? It hardly makes sense to ship the car to Maryland.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi again Ben,

I'd keep my eye on Ebay as well as Hemmings (www.hemmings.com). I would also reach out to Corvette Specialties of Maryland and see if they have something. Even if you find a decent used ones CS of MD can restore it to like new. You just ship them the cluster.

Removing and installation is not a difficult task. It's not a peice of cake either, but with a little patience and asking the right questions, you can do it.

Question to ask yourself though is what do you want to get outof the car in the end. Do you want a completely "correct" 64FI car or do you want a good driver? If the FI unit, as we already determined, is a 63, and other parts are not "correct", why concentrate on the cluster right now if youo have a working cluster?. Or is this part of your plan and one of the first things you want to attack?

You came to the right place. As well as if you are going to go down the "correct" road, I'd suggest also joining up with the NCRS at ww.ncrs.org. I'd pick up the 63/64 juding manually.

If you have more questions, fire away. We'll try to help.

...i think your best bet is swap meets but getting the correct bezels and needles will likey cost you a small fortune anyway....why don't you first try pricing out the correct parts from some of the retailers like long island corvette, midamerica, chicago corvette, etc.....then you can lie down till it passes

Ben,

In January of 2002 I sold a 64 Instrument panel that I had restored to like-new condition to a guy in Arizona that was restoring a 64. I said all that to say this, If he used the one I sold him it means he has an unrestored one that he wants to sell. If you want his name and number eMail me and I'll give you the info needed to contact him. He may even have some other partz that you can use to get your car pointed back in the direction of original.
