I continue my work of putting together my "1956 in a box(es)" and have a couple of questions about the engine. First I see that the NCRS judging book says that '56 engines were red! Is that true? Does anyone know what name or code of red? While the car will never be a show queen I'd like to have it as close to original as possible.
So far I've done more taking apart than putting together on this car. I found a couple of things about the engine (rebuilt by parties unknown) that I didn't like so I'm pulling it so I can take a good look and fix anything that's not done to my standards.
I have finally finished sorting through all the parts and it appears that most everything came with the car, only missing the radio and I knew that going into the deal. Parts are rolling in everyday and I think I'll actually be ADDING parts to the car later in the month. My goal is to have the body back on the chassis and the drivetrain put together by May. This will allow me to move the car under it's own power and will free up some space in my garage.
Yes, that's correct - '56 was the last year for "red" engines; "orange" started in '57. Corvette Central has '55-'56 Engine Red - their #101209.
I agree with John. Red (not orange) is correct for 56. And while we're on the subject, ONLY the 2x4 engines got the 9 fin alum valve covers. The 1x4 engines got painted steel valve covers.
Thanks for infor on the paint, I'll order some and ensure the engine is the correct color. I have 9 fin valve covers and the engine is the 225hp, 2X4 setup.
