As I was cleaning up my block I found these markings - it wasn't until I flipped the engine over that it made sense. The stamp pad shows HC and the markings on the side of the block must have been an assembly line marking.
This is a 1967 3892657 327 block
It looks like the block has never been tanked.

it isn't supposed to be listed. ;) I think that's interesting stuff allcoupedup, another thing to look for for those of us with non-molested original GM equip engines of the period. like looking for the job number scrawled in crayon on the dash support.
"HC" was a '66-'68 passenger car 275hp Powerglide. The suffix code was scrawled on the side of the block at the beginning of the engine assembly line (while it was upside down) so the guys down the line would know what innards to put in it, and it also told the code-stamper guy which gang-stamp holder to grab and whack with his hammer. :thumbs:
