Been a lot of discussion lately about reworking headlight motors and it's all been a ton of help. But tomorrow night I'm going to attempt to reassemble the front of a 63 and everything is spread out on the work bench.
I need a step by step on which parts to install first. I can see how it all goes together but I'm sure there are some secrets as to which part has to go in before another.
Anyone have that list?
TIA, Frapps
Just to be clear I'm talking about the buckets, the support brackets on each end and stuff like that.
Not sure how much you have off and spread out. The headlight motors will go in last. If the buckets are out they would be first, then the lights, check for free movement and alignment, then the motors. Remember, there is no motor rest/park on these things like wiper motors have. When they're open/shut, get off the switch or you could wipe the cheap gears out again. Just a side note, the slots in the motors are sometimes a pain to align with the bucket rods. It takes about 3.6 million revolutions of the 'thumb' wheel to move the motor .0000001" so be patient when turning.
To be even more specific: The buckets, brackets, bolts, everything are in seperate little bags all over the bench.
Would you slide on the bearings, felt, outer supports over the pivot rods of the bucket (both sides) and then put that assembly in the car? I get the feeling that the outer supports are bolted to the car using holes in the buckets that allow access to the bolt holes. I'm also guessing that the Y-stops and motors are installed last.
Didn't know you had it that far apart. Everything in the buckets go together (less headlights) first. I was able to reach two bolts on each bucket without going thru the holes in the bucket. The forward bolt is the one I used the hole for. I didn't take the 'Y' stop out of mine. Motor is last.
