Default Luggage stop question

The luggage stop (that piece of tin behind the seats) on my '66 is pretty beat up, and I am going to replace it. Mine is made up of three pieces spotwelded together - the straight piece in the middle and two pieces on either end that angle upward to where they are spotwelded or riveted to the pillars.
The ones I see in the catalogs are straight across (are they selling just the center piece?). I looked at a friend's '66 today, and his goes straight across all the way. Which is right? Thanks.

I recently removed the luggage stop from a '63 Coupe. There are two pieces, one like what you describe & the other one runs across the width of both seats. It fits over the top of the front of the wells just behind the seats. They were both held to the fiberglas with the same rivets. Don't know if '63 &'66 are the same.

Just out of curiosity, if you removed the luggage stop or modified it to be located farther back toward the rear of the vehicle, would you be able to move the seat farther back toward the rear of the vehicle? Some extra leg room would be nice for us tall drivers. Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend removing it. It provides some support for the center floor section and lessens floor sagging (notice I'm not saying eliminates) which can cause driveshaft bumping. My 66 had a one piece. :steering:
