How do you get the white bushing to go back onto the shaft without spreading out? Does anyone have a tip, I cant get it to go back on with the bushing, although I can without it, and If it is on, the motor needs to go about another 1/2 inch?
Re: Headlight motor installation question. (Tom McCabe)
I didn't have any problems when I put mine back in. Are you talking about the bushing that goes around the shaft coming from the headlight bucket itself? I simply put mine in the headlight motor (into the round opening), and then slide the entire thing onto the headlight bucket shaft. Then, put on that little clip.
Re: Headlight motor installation question. (Tom McCabe)
When I did mine a few weeks ago I encountered the same situation. Actually the problem was getting the motor in the proper position and angle ( rather difficult with hood up but in the way of your arm and your body angle trying to position the motor up under where it belongs with a light from undrneath ). Took patience and a little movement of the head lamp unit itself to get the proper position and angle. Once in position, I applied just a little pressure on back of motor to get the hole lined up to accept the pin (just barely fit). Have patience, it will go. Try a little lubrcant on the bushing too.
Re: Headlight motor installation question. (Bandito)
You may have to turn that little hand crank until the shaft lines up right. I found that If it's not just right, you'll never get it in. If you know some circus people who can spare a contortionist for a few minutes you'll have it made!
Re: Headlight motor installation question. (Tom McCabe)
You may have already checked this, but make sure that the flat tip of the headlight bucket shaft and the female slot on the motor are aligned so that they fit together like God intended. If they are out of alignment it will not seat properly making it appear that the bushing is the problem (The slot shaped hole in the motor's pot metal gear is about as deep as the bushing is thick causing illusions and hallucinations on top of frustration). I just did mine last Friday on my 63.
