Began rebuilding my 65 327/300 and the date codes are C263 with 13 underneath and D23 again with 13 underneath. Are these from March 26, 1963 and April 2, 1963? If so, I asume they are not correct for my car. What does the 13 tell me?
Anyway, one of them is cracked really bad. I want to get as close to correct as possible. The engine has a build date of April 5, 1965. What date codes should I be looking for?
while your results may vary, my 1965's '461 heads have date codes within 10 days ahead of the engine assembly date - F0329HH on the pad, C225 and C195 dates on the heads. (Heads baked on March 19 and 22, 1965; engine assembled on March 29th). And then you have the NCRS 6 month rule, but cylinder head dates are not judged anyway. Another good guide for your car - when was the block cast? My block has the same tight window as my heads.
but I have to ask - wouldn't this be carrying the dated parts thing kinda far? I mean, who will know, aside from a future owner who tears the car down?
