I'm restoring the black interior of my '66. I would like to repaint all the moldings, halo, seat backs, etc. While experimenting on the pinchwelt edge line, I realized that neither primer nor dye was not adhering well. I even sanded to bare metal, and was having problems with an etching primer sticking. Any suggestions on the best way to prep these parts?
I recently repainted my '67 coupe interior including the interior window moldings and halo. After recommendations from other forum members, who were docked points for " too much gloss black interior " from their recent NCRS evaluations, I went with Krylon #1613 Semi Flat Black. It looks beautiful! Can't speak to the seat backs because they are still a little more "glossy" than the halo or the window moldings. Maybe the judges won't notice, but good luck! Enough is enough!! By the way, I did lightly sand between the 3 coats of Krlyon #1613 paint with 3M #240 sand paper. Tell us of your success :smash:
It sounds like to me, there is still wax, armorall and alike, and other pollutants, still on and in the steel. Go to your local auto paint store and get a wax and grease remover, a cleaner used before paint and tack off. There are several of them out there, I like PPG DX 330.
