Default Engine Pull upcoming - 1st time

I will be pulling the engine in my '65 in the near future. It will be my first engine pull. Could you point me to any literature about the engine pull topic?

Also could you provide any insight on the process for a 1st timer?

Here is the situation. The car is a '65, 327/300hp car. The hood is off, the radiator, rad. support, and front suspension are already out of the car. The engine is currently mated to a powerglide tranny.

The plan is to replace the engine, original, with a crate motor. I also plan to swap the powerglide with the original muncie 4-speed that came with the car. I plan to bag the original engine just in case of future resto.

Right now I would just like to pull the engine and leave the tranny in the car.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Ryan

Since you will replace the auto with a Muncie and the radiator is already out, IMO it's a lot easier to take the auto out with the SB as a unit.

My car had a TH400 in place of the original Muncie when I bought it. I pulled the BB with the TH400 on the back of it, and installed the muncie with SB replacement as a unit - WITH the radiator in the car.

Be sure to add seals to the clutch cross shaft - to prevent a mess when greasing the shaft, and to keep the exhaust manifold heat from melting the grease out onto the frame and engine.

Keep any old parts that belong to the original engine - including hardware - so that the car can be restored in a future life.

Use a power drill and oil pump drive to lubricate the engine before installing it. Be sure to block the port for the oil pressure guage when you do that.

Get a "tilter" to hang on the cherry-picker, and attach the four chains to the extreme four corner intake bolt holes with Grade 8 bolts and hardened flat washers, and remove the distributor before you pull it and before you install the new engine.
