Temp Sender Again

Temp Sender Again
What is the correct way to change the temp sender, bring the car up tp temp then change it to get a little expansion? Or do it cold?

On my small block I have done it cold. Got me a Towell and unscrewed the sender...a little coolant will leak for a second ..then shove the towell in till your ready to install the new one. I leave the coolant cap on to prevent air from causing fluid flow.
Don't know if this will work on a BB. My sender is in the intake.

And another question, does anyone know what gauge the wire is? Sice the sender is copper I am assuming that it is original?
