When I was shopping for wheels and tires for my 63 I test fitted several different sizes to determine what would fit on my car. I tried to put on a 15x8 with 4.5 inches of backspacing and the wheel lip hit the end of the stock leaf spring, that was the only point of interference I had. A 15x8 with 4" of backspacing would fit but probably would stick out of the wheel wells. I have since switched to a composite spring and that actually would allow for 4.5" of backspacing on an 8" wide wheel. I am currently using 17x7 with 4 inches of backspacing and 215/50/17 tires.
