(brucep) If you haven't tried rotating the front tires to the rear, give that a shot. Might also be worth trying a front wheel dynamic balance with the wheels still ON the car (do any shops still do that?). Maybe a front spindle bearing issue?

I agree that if you aren't seeing the vibration in the gearshift lever, it's likely to be a front wheel/tire or other front end issue.

It's very strange that a shake on acceleration would manifest itself only in the steering wheel. Have you double-checked the new motor mounts for breakage or loose bolts? Steering box bolts tight?

The tires have been rotated, the steering linage is tight including a new idler arm. Tires ahve been balanced 2 times. I haven't checked the steering box bolts, will do that this week. Haven't checked the motor mount bolts either, will do that this week also. Thanks for the tips. I am still interested in that service bulletin concerning camber adjustment if anybody has info.

Thanks again
Brian

I'm far from a gear head but I had a vibration problem after replacing my clutch and tranny.
It turned out the bolts that held the clutch or flywheel ?? in place were the wrong bolts.
I needed Shoulder bolts. With regular bolts the clutch was out of allignment a little just enough to make it vibrate. I bought the correct bolts and it was fine.
Not being a mechanic when I replaced the clutch I thought I was doing a good thing using new bolts. I didn't know that there are specific type of bolts for a clutch.
Luckly someone on the forum staightened me out once again.
Live and learn.

Good luck,Mark

This is a link to Vette Brakes. It shows their recommended alignment specs and recognize they are not factory specs. May be worth a try. The more positive caster setting may help.

Gentlemen,

I started this thread. Since then I think I finally solved the problem. Seems the bolts that attach the left rear half shaft to the left rear wheel were very loose. I tightenend them up and have yet to experience the vibration again. I've siphened gas out to less than 1/4 tank and done several near WOT acceleration runs that were as smooth as I think I could ever hope for.

Seems the lock tabs on the half shafts were not being used.

My fingers are crossed.
