Default 1966 outside mirror help, please?

Gentlemen, I removed my wobbly mirror and ordered a new hex-head set screw and would like to try and determine the correct mirror for my 1966 coupe. The mirror I have is part number 3839611 with no other markings anywhere and no "bowtie". Am I lucky enough to have the original mirror? Thanks!

Rickrman,

-----All 66s and a number of 67s had bowtie mirrors. Therefore, no non-bowtie mirrors could have apppeared on a 66. Sorry to bring bad news..................Bill S

Also, the glass is dated prior to the assembly date of your car. At the bottom of the mirror, you'll see something like "X DMI Y". DMI is Donnelley Mirror Inc, the manufacturer. The X and Y are the year and month it was made. Don't remember which is which right now. Check your glass and post what you find here. Chuck

Gentlemen, Thanks for the help. My glass is unmarked so must be a reproduction. It seems to be of substantial quality and I would run it but the bowtie thing would be big in coolness. I guess I'll start shopping for the correct one. Sounds like my wallette just growled. Wait! What's that smell?

My '66 also had a 3839611 side mirror without the Bowtie but it is dated 12-DMI-7. The date is on the outer edge of the mirror surface. According to Nolan Adams (page 385) '67's switched mid year to non-Bowtie side mirrors. I haven't seen the definitive documentation for the dating scheme but Month-DMI-Year (slight variation from Chuck Gongloff's) would make sense for mine assuming the production year ran until December or, more likely, it's a service replacement part. You can get dated mirrors through Corvette World.
