What is the difference between a brake master cylinder designed for power and non-power brakes? Is it just the pushrod? Could a power brake m/c be used without the booster in a STD configuration?
The only real difference is that some have a deeper hole in the piston where the rod goes. As long as you have the correct rod length to activate the MC, it will work.
67's use exactly the same master cylinder for both manual and J50 power brakes - casting #5455509, stamped "DC", with a deep hole in the rear piston.
To clarify, the only difference between STD and Power (J50) is the pushrod length? Is that why all the catalogs have separate part numbers for power vs STD MCs?
Does anyone know what the correct lengths for the pushrods are?
Which pushrod is longer, STD or PWR?
finally, just for further info, for the J56 heavy duty brakes, what differences are there? casting and piston diameters?
John is correct that they are the same for the 67 model year, but other years and other lines used different depths. Most have been changed out by now and there is no telling what you will find.
