Steering fluid question
What kind of fluid do you put in the steering box on a 65 coupe (non-power steering car) and how do you know how much to put in. I took out the bolt that says "checl lube" and didn't see any fluid in there. I also noticed a little fluid leaking out from the bolt on the right. Someone told me to take out the bolt, put a little silicone on it and let it stand for about 20 minutes before I re-install it. Does this sound correct? Thanks in advance :cheers:

Most C1 and C2 Vette owners have changed to a good grade of Moly fortified chassis grease. The seals on the old gear box have always had a tendancy to leak, so the grease is a better way of going. Corvette Central even sells a "Kit" that includes a bolt that is temporarily replaced with a screw-in grease fitting (and they include a tube of grease). Just make sure that you remove another bolt, so that the pressure has some place to relieve itself as you pump the grease in.
