Default Pinion Bracket Cushions

I'm getting some strange noises from the rear of my '65 coupe. I recently rebuilt the rear suspension - new u-joints, strut rods, trailing arms, composite spring. Someone in a previous thread suggested that the pinion bracket cushions could be the source of noises in another member's coupe.

Can someone tell me where the pinion bracket cushions are? And what do I need to do to determine if they need replacing?

Many thanks

They are a couple of donut-shaped rubbers on the bolt that holds the shoe-shaped bracket on the front of the differential to #3 crossmember. You can probably tell by looking at them if they are squashed and the bolt moves. If so, the hole in the shoe may also be worn.

By the way, that's a very intelligent question for an Aggie! :D

If the diff bracket cushions are squashed, beware of the poly replacements - they're too thin, don't have the correct tubular sleeve, and will bring the diff nose up too close to the floor pan. Use the OEM rubber cushions and molded-in sleeve, which will probably only last another 35 years  :D

agree

but what I did (for HD use) was to torque with rubber bushings, measure the compressed thickness, then shim the poly bushing (with a fabricated alum disk painted black, but fender washers from the hardware store will do) to result in the same compressed thickness.
