Default 67 headlamp problem

The driver's side headlamp rotates WAY too much in the open position. It almost goes completely horizontal (headlamps pointing to the ceiling!). I hear a "clicking" noise as it approaches the normal open position, but continues to open way beyond the normal point. THe closing position is also too far as assembly points too far down about 3 inches. I have checked the stop screws but must be doing something wrong. There is a wiring "button" attached to the motor where the open adjustment screw hits to stop the motor? Would this be a problem if it is out? How do you check this?
Are there any publications that detail how to adjust the headlamp motors? Also, do you have to remove the hood to do the adjustment?

Sounds like your pivot stop is loose or broken. This is the "Y" shaped casting that clamps onto the headlight pivot shaft. You need to remove the hood and headlamp motor to get access to it. The pivot stop is made from cast pot metal or aluminum, so it will not take a lot of abuse from torquing the clamp bolt. Also check the knurled portion of the pivot shaft to ensure it is not damaged. When you put the new pivot stop on, be sure to align the mark on the stop with the flat spot on the pivot shaft. Good luck.
