Were it me, I'd have it crated, because they're relatively fragile off the car. There are shipping services in many cities that will pack & ship it for you (although you may have to get it to them). Don't forget to insure it!
I have enough feedback to get me worried! It is the handling of it by the freight companies and of course the packaging.
I would be willing to pay forum members to to relay it across the country to me? For example, the top could catch a ride with vacations or buisness travel from city to city finely ending up to me in central California.
Or if anyones family or friends are relocating from the east coast to the west coast, the top could catch a ride on the moving van?
I would rather pay someone how cares.
Thanks! The person I have bought it from has agreed to have it professionally crated at my cost, thats OK. The crate completely encloses the top. So, I am asking for what you might think the weight and dimensions are? My guess on the overalll dimension of the top is 4 feet by 4 feet by 2 feet and a weight of 100 lbs?
Dinensions are probably about right (the length may be closer to 5 feet), but the weight before packing is a lot lower than 100#, probably more like 40# since it is just fiberglass with some thin metal framing & trim and some weatherstripping. I think you'll find that a large package is charged higher than a small package, and that the minimum price on a large package includes some weight allowance, perhaps in the 80# to 100# range.
