Had a local guy replace the windshield gasket on my 66. He arrived at 9:45 and left at 11:15 done-> $75. Couple of comments.
1. Have some new clips for the crome and replace any that even look bent/rusted.
2. The gasket has molded togeather ends at the top of the windshield post which will pull apart and leak.
3. The install trick is to use a cord about the size of a venitian blind cord. Put the gasket on the glass, Start the cord in the lip where the frame seals at the bottom of the windshield and leave about 3 in loose. Go all the way around the gasket and meet where you started leave 3 in or so. Place the glass on the frame and from the inside pull the cord out, it will pull the gasket lip over the frame lip, work slowly and make sure the glass is snug against the frame as you pull the cord around the glass. Took him 5 min max. (He has been doing it for years.) He used no soap etc.
Nice tip about the cord, I've done mine a couple of times and will be doing it again this week - never have succeeded in stopping the leaks! New gasket each time, just doesn't fit tight to the body flange. Will consult an expert (if I find one) this time.
