I have a '67 BB and I'm a fairly new member to the forum. I keep seeing numbers matching referred to on e-bay and in the forum, but I'm not sure what that means. I love my '67, and it will only matter when I go to sell someday, but I feel like it's something I should have been aware of when I bot the car 2yrs ago since I paid over 40M.
Is there an easy way to tell if this is #s matching from the VIN?
Thanks,

If you do a search on this topic, you can probably find a week's worth of reading and decide for yourself since "number matching" seems to mean different things to different people. Engine pad restamps, for example, are number matching, but not original. In its simplest context, number matching says that the last five digits of the VIN on the car itself match the VIN derivative stamped on the engine and trans. Then there are the components like the alternator, for example. Although it will not have the VIN number stamped, some folks believe that the model number must be exact and the production date code on it must be within six months prior to the car's build date in order for the component to be numbers matching. It's really up to you, but in my opinion, when someone advertises a car as number matching, they should tell you exactly what they mean and most certainly any smart buyer will ask.
Some say it doesn't matter if numbers match but the very best cars that bring the highest dollars will likely be numbers matching. Originality is important to me. If youn enjoy the car in whatever state, that's worth something.
