They have water pimps there now? I've been running a Weiand aluminum pump for several years and I'm still happy with it.

That's an OOPS .. ! .. . I don't know if I'm being too **** about it but my big concern is the impeller shaft breaking off and making the new DeWitts TOAST .. Thanks for the reply, Vetterodder.

A valid concern. On my '70, GM was still using the '50s design pump. Small shaft/bearings.
One day at nearly 7K rpm, the front bearing seized. The shaft promptly sheared off. It ruined the shroud and made a hole in the rad the size of a football.

I went with a Stewart pump, as all the local stock cars were using it.

It has huge bearings and the small diameter nose shaft so that I could still use my original clutch fan.

It's been installed for many years with no problems.

...STAY AWAY from gm water pimps (er, ah pumps)...i've gone oh-for-three, small block or big block...i went to weiands and they've been fine...you do not need "racing" or "high volume" pumps for the street - you need the correct volume, not the highest volume

...wher'z a good pimp when you need one?

I use and sell stock water pimps [pumps], for all environments. Stock low or high HP. However I have seen some totally weird water pump problems on this forum, the likes of which I have never seen from professional installers that perform water pump replacements every day. Personally, I would recommend a stock pump for proper cooling, but to each his own.

OH PUHLEEZE!!!!!

A PROFESSIONAL WATER PUMP INSTALLER???????

assuming one knows the difference between a 1/2" and 9/16" wrench and common sense things like not trying to remove the fan belt with the engine running, EXACTLY what value does a professional bring to changing a water pump that is held in place with 4 bolts through the engine block?

'ZACTLY?

...maybe pimp is the proper word ...somebody's getting ----'d

There is some truth to that. Sometimes bolts are overtightened or belts are overtightened causing extra stress on the pump/bearing.

I'm not saying you do that!

...NAH, never do that

...BUT, if i wind up doing that, the gm pumps give up right away and the weiands' take a lot longer ( a HELL of a lot longer) to give up

Looks like the nod goes to the Weiand pump .. Kid - 3 GM pumps and they all failed .. ?? . . What's up with that .. ? .. You sure wouldn't expect it from GM ..
