1967 Steering column
Can anyone tell me the easy way to remove a standard steering column?
Has anyone else ever broken the one in their car while driving?

The removal if I recall is straight forward, just look at what's holding it in. If you take the steering wheel off protect your seat from the shaft. Good time to replace the foam seal on the shaft at the firewall and shaft bearings if they are bad. Take pictures of it before removal to put it back together later. The expanded metal area on mine was broken in half when I bought it. Is this the area you are refering to that's broken? I made a jig to align it while welding it back together. I've got pix if you're interested.
