Thanks again to all that have responded to my asking for help on production#s. I was looking over an ad that was telling me that this particular car had certain #s stamped on them to identify/verify that they belong on a particular car.- example transmission code (1458762-not the real #) and said it was correct code for 1969 corvette. Where do thes guys come up with that info at?? Is there a book or web site that has this?? The engine code is readily available/easy but not the others like tranny, rear, cyl heads, etc. any help out there?? Thanks!!
You'd be better off getting "Corvette By The Numbers", as it deals only with Corvette specifics; written by the same author (Alan Colvin) as the other Chevy "By The Numbers" books. All the resto parts houses have it.
The only components on the car that carry a derivative of the original car's serial number are the engine, transmission, and frame. To decode all the casting numbers/casting dates AND the many different dating schemes used on all the other parts in the car, you also need the NCRS Technical Information & Judging Guide for your year Corvette, available from the NCRS on-line store ( www.ncrs.org ).
