Default Small Block plug wire question

OK, guys this is my first post. I've been reading for two years.

My 327 is almost ready to go back in. I am running the new plug wires and it appears to me that the front two wires on both sides must run between the block and the engine mounts. Is this correct?

You are correct. The plug wires route through the engine mounts and block mounted clips on both sides. There are also clips that mount on the oil pan bolts.

Thanks! That's what I thought, but I could not find any pictures that actually show it. I have the block clips which mount with the heat deflectors as well as the pan clips. I appreciate the response.

If you are using all of the correct plug wire shielding, then you can't route the wires as shown in Allcoupedup's photo. The plug wires do go down behind the motor mount but exit at the rear (not at the bottom as shown) so they will fit behind the Vee shields. The clip is mounted using the pan bolt just in front of the oil tube notch (same relative position on the other side of the motor). The clip on Allcoupedup is too far forward. The Vee shield mounts using the top rear motor mount bolt and a tapped hole in the block between 5 & 7 (and 6 & 8) that is used to mount the spark plug heat sheild. When the plug wires are routed behind the Vee Shield they will exit the vee sheild at the rear of the motor above the oil filter just in front of and just below the grommet holder(Which also is an attaching point for the vertical shield).

JoseC5 -
Thanks for clarifying. I should have mentioned that I couldn't find the correct routing so I took a swag at it. The ignition shielding is completely absent from my installation --- less correct BUT less complex

My car was also missing both routing brackets that attach to the rear of the block by the date code and casting number.

Allcoupedup, your method makes it a lot easier to change out plug wires and plugs. All that shielding sure gets in the way. As seldem as I drive my 64, I only have to change the plugs and wire every 20 years. Is yours about ready to hit the road? Sure is looking good.

Joe,
It is back on the road but I have MANY minor bugs to work out. Clutch issues, leaky Holley syndrome, and somehow I managed to screw up my hood/nose alignment. Heck, I haven't even played with the timing, idle mixture, and secondaries yet.

It's easy getting it to run - the hard part is getting it to run Right !

Lenexa67-
The transmission was a nasty mess when I pulled it. I first degreased it with greased lightning, then cleaned it up with lacquer thinner and a rag and then sprayed it with alumiblast from Eastwood - same with the Bellhousing.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

dang Brian that looks good. Hope you get the bigger issues sorted so you can get down to the fun of fine-tuning that L76. How goes the hood alignment project?
