Is it possible to buy headers (and who makes them)that will fit my original 2" sidepipes without modifications. My car is a 1966 Roadster with a NOM 1969 350Cui 350 HP block with its original manifolds.
Thanks, this is my first post, hope i done it right.
You can buy headers that exit to the side for sidepipes. I believe that Hedman makes them. You DO have to modify the sidepipes however.
There's no way around that.
I have a pair of Hooker shorties hooked to my sidepipes. The last 8" of the pipes was reworked and flanges welded on. Seems to work fine. Mine are ceramic coated and were less than $300.
I designed a set and had them built for me. They are shorties and fit the 2.5 sidepipes perfectly. Even use the stock donut gasket. It's not that hard to do, since your iron headers are the model for the location of the outlet. The problem is cost. They were $700 before coating.
I don't know of any commercially available header that will do what you want.
Sine you want no visual modifications, might I suggest you look at Corvette exhuast manifolds from the late 80's or early 90's. I used (still have them sitting in my garage) a set of take offs from a C4 with my factory side pipes. The pipes had been used with other manifolds before, so they were modified a bit to match, but I think they should exit very close to the stock location for the Ram's horn manifolds that are stock.
A further question: Why do you want headers for a 2" side pipe? Are you looking for higher performance, a different sound, or a look for the engine compartment? If it is performance, how about getting your stock Ram's horn manifolds extrude honed? Everything will look 100% stock and you'll get just about the same performance (from what I've heard here) as with shorty headers.
The Hedman hedders are semi-long tubes and might be higher performance, but they will definitely need you to cut the side pipe to match it to the header pipe.
It is to gain more power, ive been told that the sidepipes with stock manifolds could be one of the reasons why my car feels slower that expected, this i've been told and im not an expert on engines, another guy from the Danish Corvette Club told me to search for some headers along with other things to get more power out of my engine, and as far as i'm told the 1969 350Cui is one of the best engines to get some power from, is that correct?

(Just ordered a speed demon 750 carb, and the engine is a 350 Hp, with performer intake and some performance camshafts, but i do not know which at the moment.)
