Default Knock-Off question.....

Hi,
Could someone please tell me....
When equipped with the knock-off wheel option, did a '66 come with a 5th K/O wheel as a spare, or a standard K-H wheel as a spare ?

Has anyone been using a K/O wheel in the standard tub, and if so, what is the maximum tire size whereby you can close the cover completely?

Thanks in advance,
Kurt

Our 66 came with five knock-offs. The only difference was that the spare wheel didn't have the cone on it. It fit in the wheel tub fine. The knock-off wheels had a little longer hanger bolts for the spare tire tub to make the wheel fit.

THANKS!
So, with the longer bolts, does the cover seal directly against the tub?
What size tire are you using, please on the spare wheel.
I'm using 205/75/R15's on the car now.

Heh Kurt,
I am using the stock 6:75 X 15 Bias tire on my spare KO. I tried to fit my 215/70R/15 spare in the tub but the lid would not go all the way due to the tire size.

A 205/R75 spare with KO wheel fits in my '66 using the long(er) hanger bolts & lock bolt.

My '66 has the original Goodrich tire (never on the ground) and the center cone on the wheel and there are no problems getting the cover closed. I've owned the car for 36 years and its the way its been since the day it came home.

No, there is a gap, and this looks sloppy to some people, others don't care much for the dirt that this situation allows into the spare tire area. You will need longer hanger bolts to accomadate modern sized rubber, in ascending order these are (1) standard length (2) KO length and (3) the Goldline length. I need the Goldline length to accomadate my spare, and even then it was TIGHT.

What size tire are you using, please on the spare wheel.

If you have posi, know that you should strive for a match on your spare wheel to your other tires, although an option in the event of a rear tire flat (if you have smaller spare) is to move a "good" wheel from the front to the rear and put the spare on the front - a "double tire change" if you will. My spare is 215/70R15

I'm using 205/75/R15's on the car now.

I have 215/70R15 Firestone Indy 500 Firehawks (smoothed & Goldlined) at all 5 corners on KOs right now.

I have 205/75-15 radials on 6" bolt-ons on my '67, and the spare fits fine with a repro upper tub, 10-1/4" front hanger bolts and the stock lock bolt; the repro upper tub is slightly larger in diameter than the original tub, which won't accommodate a current 205/75 radial.
