I had my clock rebuilt in my '63 a while back and it looked great, but now, a year later, the bezel and glass keep falling out of the dash hole away from the body of the clock. Am I missing a clip or something or do I need a good trim glue? Any suggestions?
From what I remember, that assembly connects to the motor housing. You'll need to take the entire assembly out of the car and put those pieces back together. Then, with a screwdriver or pliers, you'll need to make sure the crimps are in place to hold those two assemblies together.
When I rebuilt my clock about a year ago, I didn't do the crimping good enough and the bezel/glass assembly fell out because it could take the pressure from the clips that were supposed to hold the whole thing in the dash. Once I crimped the housing good, no problems and its been fine ever since.
Hey from West Hartford, I am in Somers Ct. with my 65 in for paint as of Friday. My boss is having the same exact problem with his for his 63 and he is in Granby, small world.
Thanks hansenisu, what you're saying makes sense. I'll give it go! Hey 75vetman, it is indeed a small world. I was at the West Hartford show and saw a car that was exactly like mine, white/red interior convert. Someone even asked me if I brought mine to the show!
There are 6 small plugs that stick up from the backside of the bezel they're crimped on the metal lens retainer. They usually fall off especially if they have been removed from each other before.
The best thing to do is to take the clock out and remove the two get some small screws(self tapping work great) drill the small plugs out and screw the two pieces together.I do it all day long and you'll never have to worry about it coming apart.BTW the "glass" is plastic.
