My recently purchased 66 has only one set of keys (one for the door, one for ingition, and one for the glovebox). I tried to have an extra set made today, but the ignition key is not common today? Anyone know where an extra blank set can be purchased. I would hate to misplace my only set of keys in that secret hiding place.
Thanks as always,
Jeff
I've seen them at zip-corvette.com for $3.50 a piece but I'd be interested if someone's seen them for cheaper? I wouldn't mind having a spare set myself.
You should have only 2 keys for your '66 -- octagon Briggs & Stratton for doors + ignition; oval Briggs & Stratton for glovebox and spare tire lock. Your post seems to indicate that you have 3 different keys. If so, one or more of your lock cylinders has been changed. If a lock cylinder has been changed or swapped with '67 unit, the key that operates it will have the letter 'A' or 'B' stamped on the blade. Better check before buying key blanks if this is the case. Send me a PM if this is confusing.
I went to a REAL lock store -- the kind that sells safes and such - he had a ton of them and charged me $.75/piece for copies. They weren't GM blanks but they work. The guy said he had some mustang blanks that someone offered him $$ for - he said he would only sell them to people needing keys cut. This guy was a classic.
I tried home depot, ace, and all the other common places for keys (including several Chevy dealerships) and they didn't have any - and looked at me kinda funny.

I bought a new lock set for my 66 vert and the set came with only one set of keys. I got my blanks through the local chevrolet dealership. They had to order them but I got them within 2 days for $1.00 each. The parts department could not cut them But a local locksmith cut them for 50 cents each.
