Default Rivets

I'm repairing my heater box, it had the studs broken off the box.I fiberglassed the broken spots and ordered a stud kit, well I've never used
the rivets they sent before. Is there a tool needed to crimp them together.also what paint do we use to paint the box with-color-
I was thinking about using a dark gray Hammerite-- Thoughts-: Mike

I use this setup for setting aluminum body rivets - air hammer, regulator to bring pressure down to 15-20 psi, and a rivet set shank for the gun (and a solid backup to "buck" the rivet against). Lots of different size/shape setting shanks available from Aircraft Tool Supply, www.aircraft-tool.com.

Good scoop from Mr Z. I might add, experiment on a piece of material with the same thickness you are dealing with. When you hold the head of the rivet, (bucking) besure and support it FIRM. Sometimes another person helps in bucking. Also, when pulling back on the trigger, besure and stay solid and "centered" on the rivet with the set shank. It only takes seconds at the trigger to get a peen. You can always stop to check your set, both back and front of your rivet and add more time if need be. If you are cutting rivets to length, don't forget to cut them long. They also have hand rivet set shanks available.
