I just had to share the pleasant experience I had with Town Fair Tire. I just purchased a used 2003 Suburban last week, and although it looks great, I wanted to update the appearance somewhat. I went to the above mentioned tire store and ordered new wheels and tires (it was a package deal). When I went to get them installed yesterday, it turned out that the warehouse had sent the wrong wheels. As it turned out, I liked these wheels much better than my first choice so I said go ahead. Well, the new wheels listed for about $100 more per wheel, but they did not charge me any more for their mistake. I got the package at the original agreed on price.
I drove the truck about 100 miles yesterday afternoon, and decided I didn't like the way the tires felt compared to the old ones. Another good deal from this tire store. If you don't like the tires, within 30 days, they will replace them. I had originally gotten Kelly Safari AWR's and they rode like a truck tire compared to the factory Firestones. Tomorrow, the tire store will mount up new Yokohama's for not a penney more. That's what I call service!

Paul,

I've also had good experiences with their store in Enfield. They have mounted all our tires over the years and, when mounting the tires on our original knock-off's, refused any payment. The workers did accept a tip though.

It's often difficult to find places that will be carful mounting tires these days, especially on custom wheels, but they have done a great job every time.

Hmmm same tire... same problem....
I too had a set of Kelly Safari AWR's put on my Dodge Dakota 4WD 4door and I did not like the way they rode and they seemed to have excessive noise when turning at slow speeds. Went back to Town Fair Tire in Sagus and they just put on a new set of Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, much better... Great service...

I used to love Town Fair Tire, loved their flat fix guarantee, took them up on that one a few times.

But a few years back, I went to them and asked them to price out a set of tires for my Avalanche that were slightly larger than the oem tires - they basically yelled at me in the store, in front of their long group of waiting customers (I could care less) to the effect that "Goog god man, don't you know your speedo will be in error [I reprogrammed the tire size via my Hypertech III reprogrammer]; your anti-lock brakes won't work, etc, etc, - no way can we touch that!"

geez guys, you would have thought I just asked you to remove my emissions equipment or something

This from the same exact place TFT, Southport, CT) that I bought my first set of Cragar SS mags and tires back in the day when I was in high shool - those were surely not a stock oem size either - I then asked if, since they basically refused to sell me any tire that was not the exact same size as the weenie all season tire that came on the truck, would they mount the slightly bigger tire for me if I sourced it elsewhere - no f-ing way, they don't mount tires they don't sell, they miss out on part of their revenue stream (to be fair to Town Fair, tis a common response).

So, just like my motorcycle, I now buy ALL my car tires on-line, from TireRack, get the most amazing price in the planet, and the local service station mounts and balances them for a few bucks per tire.

By the way, now that I think about it, it is quite likely TownFair would have refused to sell me the tires I put on my 65 last year (got em from TireRack), since they are not the oem size that came with the car . . .

I can relate to your experience. In Silver Spring MD., a mile from me is a tire shop called Radial Tire Co. When I bought my TT wheels and Yokahoma tires the wheel would not fit right with out spacers. They sent the wheel out to a MIL spec machine shop to have the lug holes redone for deep/straight shank lugs. Remounted/balanced everything for zero additional cost. They practice the same method of operation. Been doing business with them for about 9-10 years.

Last time (and it was the last time) I bought tires at TFT, the a-hole tire jockey forgot to tighten the wheels and I ruined a rim - great quality control. For tires for my regular cars I now buy at Costco. Even bought some there for my 62. Great service, great price, great equipement and all wheels are torques to specs.

These guys up here torqued the wheels on, then had me drive the truck 25 miles and return for a retorque. They were real serious about it.
