Default Tachuracy?

OK, sorry for the cheesey play on words.

I am planning to use a stock set of guages for my resto-mod, but a few cars that I have seen with stock guages seem to have "bouncy" needles (i.e. you rev the engine or floor it and the tach needle seems "loose".

I want to use the stock guage, but I also want the tach to be accurate and "tighter" in order to protect the investment...

Any thought and apologies for my lack of knowledge and poor technical description above. SWCDuke? JohnZ? others?

Thanks in advance,

Most of the earlier Tachs were "tighter" when new,In 65 GM stopped using the copper #1 worm gear in the Tachometers and they were more "loose" that and the fact that most have years of wear on them.
To get what you desire a more accurate and firmer Tach needle you'll need to have one made with a copper #1 and a stiffer speed cup spring.

Hard items to find and hard to get someone that knows how to set one up correctly.
